When you come to Chapman Ford of Columbia for a brake inspection, our technicians will check the following:

• Brake Pads – The brake pads are the components in your braking system that will wear out fastest. This is because the brake pad lining that presses against your brake rotors is made of a softer,
  friction-resistant material. The use of this softer compound keeps the brake system from being damaged from everyday stopping, but it does mean that it will not last as long as the metal that makes up other brake system
  components like the rotors. When we inspect your brake pads, we will let you know whether the pads are sufficiently thick or if you will need to have the brake pads replaced soon.
• Brake Rotors – The brake rotors are the shiny metal discs you may see behind your wheels. They will last much longer than your brake pads, but they will still need to be replaced from time to time when they get
  too thin. In addition, they may become warped. If they are still thick enough when warped, it’s possible that we can simply resurface them instead of replacing them entirely.
• Other Brake Components – When our technicians inspect your brakes, they will also check other brake components. These include the brake lines, the master cylinder, and the brake calipers.

How Often Does My Ford Need a Brake Inspection?

At Chapman Ford of Columbia, we recommend having this service performed every 10,000 miles. This is because much of brake service is based on wear, rather than mileage. By having these inspections performed this frequently,
you will be able to stay safer.
